First of all - why do I call myself ”the Ringo of social media”?  I kind of self-applied that title after listening to an incredible presentation by Sylvain Grand’Maison at a conference called Podcasters Across Borders.  Sylvain compared ways that podcasting is like the Beatles and their music, even going so far as to compare certain well-known podcasters to certain Beatles members.   You can hear the audio from his presentation here.  After doing a little thinking, I realized that when it came to Social Media, if I was a Beatle, I was Ringo:  talented enough to get by,  enabler of people smarter and more talented then him, and…well…clown. 

Born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, I moved to Southern Ontario in, um, well, a LONG time ago. Since my initial move I’ve lived in Kitchener, Cambridge, Cambridge again, Langley (BC), Cambridge (again!), Thunder Bay (again!), Cambridge (yet again!) and then Kitchener…..still. Whew, that was tiring just typing it, try moving that many times.

I’ve been playing guitar and writing music since I was about 15 years old, after finding an old beat up (when I say “beat up” I mean there was an actual hole in the thing) guitar in the attic with 2 strings attached. After beating that thing for a while I acquired a late 60’s Telecaster and amplifier that almost outweighed me 2 to 1. That was when I discovered “volume”.

As far as the rest of my exploits - I married for the first time very young. That, alas, didn’t last. I’ve held jobs that ranged from sales to marketing to production to warehousing. I don’t know a lot about much, but I sure know a lot about a little. Chalk that up to being curious about just about anything and everything. Kind of like a cat, but not as fuzzy.

Give me a Hunter Thompson, PJ O’Rourke, or Will Ferguson book and I’ll be a happy guy. Especially if you give me a Taps beer to drink whilst I read it. Especially then if there are some good tunes in the background.

Hobbies include reading, podcasting, living, loving, the aforementioned music, daytrip traveling, and trying to build up as much good Karma as I can.   I also enjoy long walks on the beach.  Or sleeping on a beach, or drinking on a beach….or walking and drinking on a beach until I go to sleep.

I’m currently living in Kitchener, Ontario (Canada) with my wife (The Luverly Michelle) and our two insane Bengal Cats, Sushi and Sake.
